Service Description

Are you about to become a first time parent? Do you have questions or concerns but don't know who to ask for help? The Gentle Village provides a one-off antenatal class for the expectant support person, completely run by experienced midwives. Having our midwives see first-hand experience, how many men/partners struggle to understand the changes that happen to a woman's body during pregnancy, labour, birth and especially throughout the postpartum period. Many men/partners share the same fears and concerns about becoming a new parent, and are unsure of how to prepare themselves for the pregnancy, labour, birth and early parenting. During this class you will have the opportunity to talk about any issues that are on your mind related to becoming a new parent and what you may expect of yourself. You will learn about babies and how to look after them in the early days. You will also learn the benefits of interacting with your baby while gaining valuable skills in caring for your newborn. We will help prepare you to better support your partner during her pregnancy, labour, birth and breastfeeding support. We will also discuss issues such as sex, the effects of having a baby on your relationship, postnatal depression and the financial pressures of starting a family. This relaxed class is for expectant partners only (Sorry pregnant mummies, you are not allowed - but you can book them in and surprise them). The class can be run in a neutral environment (pubs are a favourite!) for you to feel comfortable. You are more than welcome to bring a friend along if you need!
